There are rules.
Never reveal where you’re from. Never be intimate with anyone outside your community. And never interfere with history.
You’re here because you’ve been given a second chance to escape the horror of the future. What has happened has happened, and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.
Or is there?
The Here and Now is an enthralling and spine-tingling time-travel thriller, that will leave you craving more. The cover is absolutely beautiful, it has an angelic feel alongside the colours which are rather futuristic.

Personally, I feel you should go into this novel knowing very little. Just know that it is a beautiful novel of forbidden love and secret communities, incorporating scenes from the future.

Our main protagonist Prenna is very intelligent and will not let others opinions overthrow her own. Though she understands the danger she is continuously putting herself in, Prenna always drives herself by the intention to help others, putting them before herself. She doesn't just give herself up and agree with everyone else, she stands her ground and is not scared to say she does not want to. James was also very intelligent and both he and Prenna were a fantastic team. He had drive to help others and was determined to help Prenna anyway he could; he also did not pressure his opinions upon her.

The plot of this novel was interesting. At times I found it to be rather slow alongside a couple of info-drops that I felt could have been incorporated into the storyline. However, without-a-doubt Brashares has created an imaginative and captivating novel of the sacrifices you can make to save the people you love.

Furthermore, I loved reading Brashares take on the future. She mapped it out clearly and precisely, answering all your questions as you went but also helping to understand the problems and their solutions within the future; it was incredibly intriguing.

An addictive and emotional novel, The Here and Now is beautifully written and will certainly leave you breathless.
