Nihal lives in one of the many towers of the Land of the Wind. There is nobody like her in the Overworld: big violet eyes, pointed ears, and blue hair. She is an expert in swordplay and the leader of a handful of friends that includes Sennar the wizard. She has no parents; brought up by an armorer and a sorceress, Nihal seems to be from nowhere.

Things suddenly change when the Tyrant takes charge. Nihal finds herself forced to take action when she is faced with the most difficult mission a girl her age could imagine.

Fierce, strong, and armed with her black crystal sword, Nihal sets out to become a real warrior. Readers will be riveted as she forges her powerful path of resistance.
This was an easy read containing action and adventure alongside a serious note of war and emotions. The cover is what first caught my eye, it is how I pictured Nihal but it was mostly her sword and it's intricate design that made me curious and intrigued to read this novel.

Nihal is unique and individual amongst the villagers in the Land of the Wind, but one thing is certain: she wants to become the first female warrior. However, when her village is destroyed along with many others, Nihal possess the emotions of anger and revenge as her new best friends embark on an unforgettable and life-changing journey.

Nihal went through a lot of stages throughout the novel, though she was fierce and determined she also came across as naive and very spoilt meaning I felt I was unable to connect well with her. One aspect I did enjoy about her character was how her emotions evolved, she was delicate and vulnerable, the complete opposite of the type of person she was trying to be; it was very interesting to watch.

The plot of this novel was imaginative and gripping, I was instantly captivated by the action and adventure but additionally the background story to the novel; the history and relationships behind, I am intrigued to know more meaning I look forward to finding out more in the sequel.
